A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Aloha Everyone.

A brief update on the Lanai Glass Exhibition which was held at the Manele Bay Hotel on April 1-3.  This year the exhibition was staged in the lobby of the hotel which made the show so much more impressive than last year which was in one of the restaurants.    We had 12 members exhibit their artwork and we sold over $7,800 worth of glass which is slightly more than last year.   The hotel manager was so impressed with the exhibition that he suggested we might want to do it again in the fall when a big group of well-to-do barristers is on island.   You can check out images of this years Lanai Glass Exhibition at;  www.mauiglassartists.org/lanai2011.html

Work is underway for the "Holiday Glass Benefit" that we are planning for late October or early November so that could be 2 great venues for you to exhibit and possibly sell your glasswork in the fall.   Also in the works is an exhibition with the Maui Organization for the Ceramic Arts, (MOCA), called "Out of the Kiln."   We are looking to schedule this show sometime in the summer.  The only requirement for work entered in the show is that a kiln was used by the artist somewhere in the creation of the work.

And lastly, just a note that registration for Maui Open Studios 2012 is now open.  The rates have gone up from last year, but the extra money from the increased registration fees will be going into more guidebooks and advertising.  Reported sales from this years MOS was over $101,951.  Yes that is correct.  More than a hundred thousand dollars worth of art was sold during the event.   Weekend #1 was the reported winner for sales with $56,020.   Next year will be bigger and better and you can only imagine what the event will produce once it has been around for 5 years or so.  This is the kind of event that tourists plan their vacations around.

All this and more at the general meeting.  Hope to see you there.
Aloha, Dennis
ps.......I hear that Karuna has a new vitrograph kiln.  Can't wait to see what she has done with it.

MGAA WEBSITE
At the Lanai Glass Exhibition we had a stack of MAUI GLASS ARTISTS ASSOCIATION cards and a lot of them went home with people who saw the show as well as a lot of the buyers.   The main purpose of these cards is to get people to go to our website.
Are you on the website?  This is a valuable tool for marketing your work and yourself.  Several members have sold work because of the website and one member got a BIG COMMISSION.  Being included on the MGAA website is part of your membership fee.  It doesn't cost you anything, it just takes you sending in your images and text.  If you would like to be added to the website or need to update your info or images contact:  Bill Cox @ divrb@netzero.net   or  572-4177.
