Artist: Dona Ziegler

Born in the Philippines, I have always considered the Pacific my home. Now that I'm living on Maui, I am inspired daily by the surrounding beauty. The inspiration I receive is truly a blessing from God.

I fell in love with the glass medium in 2002 by beginning with traditional leaded stained glass. After building architectural windows for private home owners, I became eager to venture into other forms of glasswork. Mosaics grabbed my attention and it was a great way to recycle left over glass. Then I discovered hot glass and became hooked. I started fusing pieces of glass together in a kiln. Then a second firing would consist of slumping my pieces into shapes such as bowls and plates. I have most recently begun creating more elaborate pieces adding paint to the bold colored glass I prefer to use. This is the technique that was used by artisans of old to create the intricate stained glass church windows. The striking boldness of the paint that complements the colored glass can be admired when it hangs in a window or is placed into a miniature light box. I am pleased to be able to share my glasswork with you.
